Freshman men’s basketball player Andrew Rowsey is this week’s Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week.
Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.
Rowsey averaged 33.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two games last week. He tied his career-high with 35 points against VMI, and then scored 32 points with a personal-best seven rebounds in the Bulldogs’ one-point victory at Longwood. Rowsey is the first player in Asheville’s Division I history with back-to-back 30-point games. He also tied the school record with 8 three-point field goals against the Lancers. For the week, Rowsey was 20-of-37 from the floor (.541), 12-of-21 from beyond the arc (.571) and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line.
Andrew is averaging a team-leading 18.5 points per game and that scoring average is fifth best nationally for scoring among freshman. He was also named Big South Freshman of the Week on Monday for the fourth time.
Rowsey and the Bulldogs start a two-game homestand at Kimmel Arena on Wednesday when they host Campbell starting at 7 p.m.
