BLACKSBURG, Va. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed on the first day of the Big South Conference championships at the Rector Fieldhouse on the campus of Virginia Tech.
The Bulldog men’s team is tied for eighth place after the first day with six points, while the women’s squad is in eighth place with four points.
Both Asheville Distance Medley teams earned fifth place finishes and picked up four points each.
The men’s team posted a time of 10:20.14. The foursome included Caleb Smith, Chase Stevens, Patrick Osborne and Andy Thornburg.
The women’s quartet finished with a time of 12:27.18. They include Sarah Heisner, Anna Gelbach, Kelsie Rubino and Rachel Carson.
Asheville picked up a point each in two different field events. Kurt Hibert took eighth in the weight throw as his best throw as 16.73 meters.
John Bellard had a leap of 1.89 meters in the high jump and finished in eighth place.
