CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past UNC Asheville 6-5 in the Big South Conference opener for both teams Friday afternoon.

 

Pete Guy’s three-run homer in the sixth inning helped give the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead before the Blue Hose rallied in the seventh.

 

The teams will finish their series with a double-header on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

 

Asheville (4-12, 0-1 BSC) pounded out 11 hits in the game with four players getting two hits each.  Kyle Towles, Tommy Houmard, Robert McIntosh and Phillip Treadway all had two hits for the Blue & White.

 

PC scored on a Bulldog error in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Asheville freshman starter Joe Zayatz kept the Blue Hose at one run until the Bulldogs rallied in the sixth.

 

Towles led off with a single. He went to third on a Houmard single. McIntosh’s RBI-single knotted the game at 1-1.

 

Treadway singled in Houmard to put the Dogs in front 2-1.

 

One out later, Guy hit his third home run in two games, a three-run shot, to push the Asheville lead to 5-1.

 

It stayed 5-1 until the seventh inning. The Blue Hose cut the lead to 5-4 on three hits, a walk and a Bulldog error.

 

With runners on second and third and two outs, pinch-hitter Nate Chong delivered a two-run single to put the Blue Hose in front 6-5.

 

Asheville had a chance to tie the game in the eighth but had a runner thrown out at the plate.
