ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team begins Big South Conference play on Friday when the Bulldogs open a three-game series at Presbyterian College starting at 3 p.m. Saturday’s contest starts at 2 p.m., followed by Sunday’s 1 p.m. game.

Saturday and Sunday’s game can be seen for free on the Big South Digital Network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville is 4-11 on the season but is coming off a 17-11 victory over defending Atlantic Sun champion East Tennessee on Wednesday. The Bulldogs pounded out 21 hits in the victory and led 17-3 late in the game.

“We’re looking forward to starting conference play,” admitted Asheville coach Tom Smith. “We’ve been hitting the ball a little better lately and hopefully that carries into conference play this weekend."

Asheville plans to start freshman right-hander Joe Zayatz (1-3, 5.28 ERA) on Friday and is undecided about Saturday or Sunday’s starter yet.

Phillip Treadway leads the Bulldog hitting attack with a .321 average. The Bulldogs are excited to have catcher Pete Guy in the line-up. Guy made his debut on Wednesday against the Bucs and all he did was hit two home runs and drive in seven runs. Guy hit a grand-slam and two-run shot in the contest.

PC is 7-9-1 on the season and has posted some solid wins in the first part of the year.

“Presbyterian has a good team and hits the ball well,” stated Smith. “We’ll need to play well in all areas of the game to have a chance to win the series.”

The Blue Hose has won the last three series' against the Bulldogs.
