CHARLOTTE, N.C – Senior women’s tennis player Zoe Hamel is UNC Asheville’s nominee for the Big South Conference's Woman of the Year, announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Sponsored by Big South Corporate Partner Musco Sports Lighting, the Big South's Woman of the Year Selection Committee will determine two finalists. They will be announced next week, and the overall winner will be announced and presented her award at the Big South's Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday, May 29 at The Marriott Resort in Hilton Head, S.C. The Big South Woman of the Year winner is nominated as a candidate for the national NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Hamel, a double major in mathematics and economics, has volunteered with the Asheville City Schools for the past two years. The team captain has also been a member of the UNC Asheville French Club Board since her freshman campaign. She has been a two-time recipient of the Economics Department’s Outstanding Student Award. Zoe is a two-time member of the Big South All-Academic team for women’s tennis and is an Academic All-America nominee this year.
She was granted a fellowship by the University of Vancouver in Math and will begin her studies in September.
Hamel is one of 13 nominees from 11 different Big South Conference institutions for the Woman of the Year award.
