SCOTTSDALE, AZ. - Former UNC Asheville pitcher Justin Schumer had a pretty successful start to his professional career on Saturday night.
Schumer earned a win in his first professional outing on Saturday when the Arizona Giants defeated the Arizona Indians, 5-1.
He entered the contest in top of the fifth inning with the game tied a 1-1. Schumer came on in relief of Giants starter Armando Paniagua. He pitched a scoreless inning as he did not give up a hit, walked two and struck out one. The Giants scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 2-1 and went on to win, 5-1. Schumer was credited with the victory with one inning of work.
The right-hander finished up his Bulldog career this past season. He was signed as a Free Agent by the San Francisco Giants earlier this month.
