Atkinson Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville junior forward Jeremy Atkinson (Elm City, N.C.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for games played Jan. 9-15, it was announced today by the Conference office.

Atkinson averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and made 73.7 percent of his field goals in two Big South road wins last week.  Entering the week averaging 9.9 points, Atkinson scored a career-high 22 points and collected seven rebounds in Asheville's 86-79 comeback win at Campbell last Thursday.  The Bulldogs trailed by 17 in the first half and Atkinson led the second-half surge with 19 points.  On Saturday at High Point, he tallied 19 points with a game-high eight rebounds in the win.  For the week, Atkinson was 14-of-19 from the field, 13-of-18 from the charity stripe ( =72.2 percent) and recorded a steal in both games.
