The eighth-seeded Panthers (13-17) won their first-round game on Monday night over ninth-seeded Gardner-Webb, 68-58, allowing them to advance to the quarterfinals of the championship at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs, the top seed in the tournament, host High Point Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
In the other first-round game, seventh-seeded VMI held off 10th-seeded Radford, 55-53. The Keydets advance to Wednesday's quarterfinal game against second-seeded Coastal Carolina at Noon.
Asheville knocked off High Point in 2010 quarterfinals, 84-73 at Justice Center. The Bulldogs downed the Panthers, 62-45 in the semifinals last year at Coastal Carolina.
