ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville pounded out 15 hits and scored 13 runs to back the starting pitching of Dean Roland as the Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak with a 13-0 victory over visiting Morehead State Sunday afternoon.
Asheville (8-9) was led by a trio of players with three hits each. Thomas Bess went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Hunter Bryant went 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Cody Buch added three hits and two runs scored.
That was more than enough for Roland (3-2). The right-hander went seven innings, scattering three hits, striking out six and walking one. Klint Davis and Taylor Krugh pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
Asheville jumped in front with two runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no one out and got a sacrifice fly from Todd Joyner and a run-scoring single from Ian Graham to jump to a 2-0 lead.
The home team put the game away in the fourth with seven runs to build a 9-0 lead. Asheville sent 13 men to plate with Bryant getting both his doubles in the frame. The freshman doubled down the left-field line to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Buch drove in one run to make it 3-0 with Bryant scoring on an outfield error.
Asheville got two runs via bases-loaded walks to Jordan Lurie and Billy Creighton. Bryant completed the uprising with a two-run double down the right-field line.
Bess drove in his second run of the game in fifth to pad the lead to 10-0. He drove in another run in the seventh with a ground-out.
The Bulldogs completed the scoring in eighth with two more runs as Asheville scored the runs on a throwing error at third base.
Creighton and Graham added two hits each for the Blue & White.
The Bulldogs are off this week. They moved their game with Western Carolina schedule for Tuesday night to March 21 at McCormick Field starting at 6 p.m. Asheville opens Big South Conference play at Greenwood Field vs. VMI at 3 p.m.
