LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty scored a goal in each half and held on for a 2-0 Big South Conference women's soccer victory over UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at Liberty Field.
The Lady Flames (8-3, 2-0-0 BSC) won their fourth straight match. Liberty got a goal from Lauren Stell in the 15th minute and a goal from Geena Swentik in the 77th minute to account for the scoring in the match.
Liberty out-shot Asheville (2-8-0, 0-2-0 BSC) 21-9 in the match as Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller made eight saves.
"Today's result was disappointing, as we played a very good game for 90 minutes," stated Asheville coach Michelle Demko. "We created some good opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. I am proud how we came out and sustained a high level for 90 minutes. The fact that we continue to create opportunities is a positive for the program. The goals will come. We just have to keep creating the chances."
Asheville had four players with two shots each. They were Amanda Dailor, Shenny Lenhart, Paige Trent and Kennedy Garrett.
The Bulldogs return home next weekend for two Big South Conference matches at Greenwood Field. Asheville hosts VMI Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. and then entertains defending Big South champion Radford on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
