ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball program had three players earn Big South All-Conference honors on Sunday. The league announced its award winners this afternoon in a vote by the league's coaches and media panel.


Senior forward Jeremy Atkinson, freshman forward Will Weeks and sophomore guard Keith Hornsby were the trio of Bulldogs getting honors from the Big South.


Atkinson was named to the league's All-Conference first team. The Elm City native is third in the Big South in scoring with a 17.7 average, seventh in rebounding with a 7.0 mark, sixth in field goal percentage at .485 and fifth in free throw percentage at .819. He has scored in double figures in 30 of Asheville's 31 games this year, including a 31-point outburst in a 72-65 upset win at St. John's on Dec. 21.


Weeks earned a spot on the Big South's All-Freshman team. He has started in 23 of Asheville's 31 games. The rookie forward was the Bulldogs' fourth-leading scorer with a 9.0 average and is third on the club in rebounding with a 5.3 mark. Weeks is Asheville's top shooter on the team as he's shooting .606 (103-170) from the field. He set a single-game record for field goal percentage at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 9 when he went 11-of-12 from the field and tallied a career-high 27 points.


Hornsby made the league's All-Academic team. He was one of nine players to make the team. The Williamsburg, Va. native is Asheville's second leading scorer with a 15.1 average. He is second in the nation in free throw shooting at .930 (93-of-100).     


The Bulldogs open play in the Big South Basketball Championship this Tuesday afternoon when they take on Longwood starting at 2 p.m. This year's championship will be held at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina.
