ATLANTA, Ga. – A seven-run sixth inning by the home-standing Panthers helped lift Georgia State over the visiting UNC Asheville baseball team on Tuesday afternoon, as GSU earned a 12-3 victory over the Bulldogs at the GSU Baseball Complex.

With the setback the Bulldogs fall to 4-8 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 8-5.

First baseman Hunter Bryant, Shortstop Robert McIntosh, second baseman Kyle Towles and third baseman Justin Woods each collected two hits for the Blue & White, as the Bulldogs’ infield amassed eight of the team’s 10 hits. Woods also led Asheville with two runs batted in.

The Bulldogs stranded 12 runners on the day, who lose for only the second time this season when recording double digit hits.

Designated Mark Hogan went 2-for-5 at the plate for GSU, with five RBI and two runs scored. Centerfield Josh Merrigan was 2-for-5 as well, with two RBI and a run scored for the Panthers.

Ethan Steible (0-2) was credited with the loss in relief, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Corey Randall got the start for the Bulldogs, giving up two runs on three hits in two innings of work.

GSU’s Ben Burns picked up the win in a relief appearance, giving up one run on two hits in 3.2 innings to improve to 2-1 on the year.

The game was delayed twice, due to inclement weather in the Atlanta area.

The two teams will square off once again tomorrow, with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
