Ristic Wins Hurdles at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – Milan Ristic won the 110 Hurdles, while Kurt Hibert finished second in the hammer throw to highlight UNC Asheville’s performance at the Duke Invitational this weekend at Wallace Wade Stadium.

 

This was the final meet for the Bulldog track and field squads before competing in the Big South Conference Championships in two weeks.

 

Ristic won the hurdles at Duke for the second straight year. He posted a time of 14.00 to come in first place over an impressive field.

 

Hibert continued his great year in the hammer throw by taking second place. He had a throw of 56.19 meters.  He also competed in the discus and came in 13th with a throw of 42.63 meters.

 

John Bellard continues his good work this year in the javelin as he finished in seventh place with a throw of 52.96 meters.

 

Distance highlights included a seventh and eighth place finish for David Ryland (15:59) and Ryan Catrine (16:03) in the 5000 meters Section D race.

 

Sebastian Paniagua took eighth in the 800 meters development race with a time of 1:58.14. In the 1500 meters development event, Andy Thornburg took fifth at 4:09.37.

 

The women’s team had plenty of highlights as well during the weekend.  Ashlei Clodfelter came in third in the javelin with an impressive throw of 40.32 meters.

 

Meredith Foster finished sixth in the high jump as her top leap was 1.63 meters.

 

In the distance races, Emma Bussard finished sixth in the 3000 meters steeplechase as she posted a time of 10:40.79.

 

In the 1500 meters development race, the Bulldogs had two runners in the top four. Melianie Kulesz (4:46.51) took second while Adrian Etheridge (4:48) was right behind her in fourth place.

 

Sarah Gentry competed in the both the 800 and 1500 this weekend. She finished seventh in the 800 meters at 2:10.32. Gentry came in the 15th in the 1500 with a time of 4:40.09.

 

In the 5000 meters, Jennifer Black placed 10th at 19:54 with teammate Scarlett Beamon right behind her at 20:05.

 

Erin Dalton took 12th in the 3000 meters by posting a time of 10:26.
