ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team plays its first and only exhibition game on Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Charlotte at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Michelle Demko’s team has been practicing for over a week. The fourth-year head coach believes that the “friendly” with the 49ers will be an excellent test for her young squad. Asheville's roster has 24 players on it with 18 being either freshmen or sophomores.
“Playing Charlotte is a great test for our team,” explained Demko. “Charlotte is incredibly organized and plays at a high speed of play. They will test every component of our program.
“Saturday’s match will allow our freshmen to get some valuable playing time,” added Demko. “It will also allow our team to play together in a match.”
The Bulldogs battled the 49ers last year in Charlotte before falling 3-1. Asheville opens the regular season at home against Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 23 at 5 p.m.
