JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – North Florida scored three straight goals in the second half as the Ospreys stayed unbeaten with a 4-1 victory over visiting UNC Asheville Saturday night.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the game on senior forward Kenneth Lingerfelt’s second goal of the season in the 48th minute.

UNF (3-0-1) controlled most of the match as the Ospreys out-shot Asheville (2-3-0) 23-3 and had nine corner kicks to just one for the Bulldogs.

“I was very disappointed with our opening 30 minutes. North Florida has some speed and technique up front, and we were slow to start tonight,” stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern.

“I was proud of the guys for finding the equalizer, but we struggled to create and convert enough chances,” added Kern. “We have to give credit to North Florida for a tactical plan that we had difficulty solving.”

The Ospreys led 1-0 in the first half as they out-shot the Dogs 10-0. Drew Spragg scored his first goal of the season in the 19th minute to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Bulldog goalkeeper Dan Jackson made three saves for Asheville in the opening half to keep Asheville in the match.

Andrew Sotak was assessed a red card in the 40th minute for Asheville and left the Bulldogs with just 10 players.

But Asheville came alive early in the second half to knot the match. Mick Giordano sent a pass to Lingerfelt who connected into the left corner of the net tie the game at 1-1 in the 48th minute.

It stayed 1-1 when Spragg scored his second goal of the night off a deflection for a 2-1 UNF lead in the 55th minute.

Jake Fraham scored on a free kick in the 63rd minute for a 3-1 UNF lead. Max McDaniel finished the scoring by scoring on a PK at 87:46.

Jackson made eight saves for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs play next at the Asheville Invitational as they’ll play Howard Friday at 3:30 p.m.
