ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Toni Lashley scored two goasl midway through the first half as Charleston Southern defeated UNC Asheville 3-0 in Big South Conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.


The victory (4-7-0, 1-3-0 BSC) snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lady Bucs. The Bulldogs fell to 5-6-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in league action. Lewis had two assists and a goal for the visitors.


Asheville controlled play for the part of the match before CSU struck quickly.  The Bulldogs had the first three shots of the game before the Lady Bucs scored on a counter. Allison Lewis sent a pass to Chelsea Phillips. Phillips hit Lashley who quickly got behind the Asheville defense and connected from six yards out for a 1-0 CSU lead at 15:50. It was the Lady Bucs first shot of the match.


CSU’s second shot of the game resulted in another goal by Lashley.  Lewis intercepted a Bulldog pass and was able to get the ball to Lashley who scored on a shot from 10 yards out for a 2-0 lead at 18:18.


The Bulldogs started strong in the second half as they fired four of the period’s first five shots. Amanda Knapp had a shot from six yards out than went inches wide.


CSU sealed the game on Lewis’s goal off a corner kick. Ashle Lowdermilk sent a ball into the goal area that Lewis was able to knock in the back of the net for a 3-0 Lady Buc lead at 56:22.


Charleston Southern goalkeeper Caitlin Cody stopped six Bulldogs shots for the shutout.  Asheville out-shot the Lady Bucs, 17-14. Amanda Dailor led the Bulldogs with five shots, three on target.


UNC Asheville goes on the road next and will face Big South Conference leader Winthrop Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Charleston Southern visits Campbell on Wednesday for a league match starting at 7 p.m.
