ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer teams heads to Winthrop on Wednesday night for a Big South Conference contest with the Lady Eagles starting at 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs (5-6-1, 1-2-1 BSC) face a stern test against Winthrop (7-2-1, 3-1-0 BSC). The Lady Eagles are an explosive team and have won five of their last six matches. They picked up impressive road wins at High Point (2-1) and VMI (4-0) last week.  Winthrop is averaging three goals per match and that’s seventh nationally.

Asheville fell at home to Charleston Southern on Saturday, 3-0. It was a frustrating loss for the Bulldogs as they dominated much of the match and out-shot the visitors, 17-13 but just could not get the ball into the back of the net.

The Blue & White hope to get the offense going as the Bulldogs have not scored in the last three matches. Kennedy Garrett leads Asheville in scoring with two goals, two assists and six points. Shenny Lenhart and Amanda Knapp have scored two goals each for the Bulldogs.

The match with Winthrop begins a tough season-ending stretch for Asheville as the Bulldogs will finish with five of their last seven matches away from home. Michelle Demko’s club only has two home matches left.

Junior goalkeeper Heather Muller continues to have a great season for the Bulldogs with four shutouts and a 1.10 goals-against-average. She has 68 saves on the year which is third in the Big South and 14th nationally.

Asheville leads the series 7-5-2 but Winthrop has won four of the last five matches.
