HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – UNC Asheville captured five first place finishes and battled Marshall before the Thundering Herd recorded a 148.5-105.5 victory over the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.
Alessandra Troncoso and freshman Alexandra van Dorsten each won two events for the Blue & White. Ashley Ireland won one event for the Bulldogs.
“I was especially proud of our five first-place finishes today. The team battled well to win those races,” commented Asheville coach Elizabeth Lykins. “There were a lot of tight races, and I'm pleased with our efforts. The team is improving as the season progresses, and we look forward to Davidson and VMI next weekend.
Troncoso took the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:07.15. She won the 200 breastroke as she posted a time of 2:24.71.
Van Dorsten earned first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (54.69) and 200 freestyle (1:58.55). She finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:02.28).
Ireland took home first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.88.
UNC Asheville competes again next Saturday afternoon at Davidson when the Bulldogs compete in a tri-meet with VMI and Davidson starting at 1 p.m.
