ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior libero Rachel Wells has moved up to second nationally in digs this week.

Wells has accumulated 631 digs this year and her 5.95 per set average has her first in the Big South and second in the nation. She trails Western Carolina’s Morgan Cochran who leads the country with a 6.13 per set mark.

The Statesville native posted a career-high 42 digs in a thrilling five-set win over Presbyterian College Friday night. She then had 23 the next day in a five-set loss at Winthrop.

Wells and the Bulldogs are 17-11 on the season and have a 7-5 worksheet in Big South Conference play. Asheville is in a three-way tie for third place entering the final weekend of play in the league. The Bulldogs finish the regular-season at home against Liberty Friday night and Radford Saturday afternoon. Saturday will be Senior Day as the Bulldogs will honor their five seniors prior to the match.
