GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s swim team won nine events and cruised to a victory over North Carolina A&T, 122-62 Friday evening at Aggie Pool.
The victory improved the Bulldogs’ dual record to 6-5 and clinched a winning season for the Blue & White in just their second year of competition after the program was returned to varsity competition after more than 35 years of competition.
Asheville was led by Rachel Van Noordt, Alexandra van Dorsten and Alessandra Troncoso as the trio all won two events for the Bulldogs. The Blue & White also picked up wins from Ashley Ireland and Galen Broido. The 200-yard medley relay team also took first place on Friday.
Van Noordt captured the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.80. She also finished first in the 500 freestyle at a time of 5:32.63.
Alexandra Van Dorsten picked up first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.51)and 100 butterfly (1:01.98).
Troncoso finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:17.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.64).
Ireland captured the 100 freestyle at a time of 56.43. Broido picked up first in the 100 backstroke as she posted a time of 1:04.91.
The Bulldogs 200 medley relay team consisting of Reid Jackson, Alessandra Troncoso, Alexandra van Dorsten and Ashley Ireland won handily with a time of 1:53.63.
Asheville has two weeks off before competing in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Championships that will be held in Knoxville (Feb. 19-22).
