ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team begins a two-game homestand on Tuesday when the Bulldogs host Tennessee Tech at Greenwood Field starting at 3 p.m. Asheville will then play East Tennessee State Wednesday, also at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs (3-11) were swept at Appalachian State this past weekend but knocked off Charlotte and N.C. Central last week.

“We’re glad to get some home games this week,” admitted Asheville coach Tom Smith. “It was a tough weekend at Appalachian but we battled on Sunday and almost came back and won. Hopefully, we can build some momentum before opening conference play this weekend.

Smith’s club opens Big South Conference play starting on Friday with a three-game series at Presbyterian College.

Asheville will be challenged this week. Tennessee Tech brings a 13-3 worksheet into Tuesday’s action, while ETSU stands at 7-8 on the year but owns an 11-6 win over the Bulldogs on Feb. 25.

Tommy Houmard (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will make his first start of the season on Tuesday, while the Bulldog coaching staff hasn’t decided who will start against the Bucs.

Erik Connolly leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .282 average and in RBI’s with eight. Eli Miller is next with a .277 average and tops the club in home runs with two.
