ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women’s soccer player Suzie Zigante has been selected to play for the Croatian National Team when they participate in the Balaton Cup Women's International Tournament in Hungary in early August.

Bulldog coach Michelle Demko is delighted for Zigante to play for Croatia.

"We are all incredibly excited for Suzie's opportunity. She has worked very hard in training and continues to push not only herself but her team to become better,” stated Demko. “Suzie is committed to playing her best soccer every day and her work is paying off with this opportunity to play with the women's Croatian National Team.

“She has played with the Croatian youth national team in the past, and I know one of her goals is to continue with the senior national team program,” added Demko. “Our staff and her teammates are beyond thrilled for Suzie. She is the true definition of a Bulldog and we know she will do great. I couldn't be happier and more proud of Suzie."

Zigante played for the Bulldogs last year and served as a back-up goalkeeper to Heather Muller. She played in five games and helped share a shutout against USC Upstate. Zigante is from Holly Springs, N.C. and played at Holly Springs HS before beginning her collegiate career at Grand Canyon in the fall of 2012. She transferred to Asheville in January, 2013.
