ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team begins training for the 2014 season on Wednesday with a morning workout.

Fifth-year coach Michelle Demko is excited about the upcoming campaign.

“One of the big things we have this year is depth,” stated Demko. “We can go to the bench and not lose much.

“I also like our versatility,” added Demko. “This year’s club can play a lot of different ways and be effective.”

The Bulldogs have also added speed throughout their line-up.

“We have a lot more speed this year and when we attack we can really get behind our opponents in the final third and create some havoc,” Demko stated.

Asheville brings back seven starters from last year’s injury-riddled 6-11-2 season. The six victories was the most for the Bulldog program since the 2006 season.

Demko’s club plays one exhibition match and that will be at mountain rival Western Carolina on Aug. 15. The Bulldogs open the season a week later under the lights at Greenwood Field when they host Chattanooga starting at 6 p.m.
