LOUISVILLE, KY. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will attempt to win its first game of the year Monday night against one of the best teams in country as the Bulldogs play #5 Kentucky in Louisville's Freedom Hall starting at 7 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by FoxSportSouth and can be heard on radio in the Asheville area on WISE (1310-AM) with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.

Asheville fell to 0-5 on the season Friday night with a tough 72-66 home loss to Furman. The Paladins built an 11-point lead midway through the second half before the Bulldogs rallied but couldn't come all the way back. Sophomore guard J.P. Primm scored a season-high 20 points in the loss. He scored 14 points in the final three minutes to almost get Asheville back.

The Bulldogs face a monumental task against an unbeaten and very talented Wildcat squad. Kentucky is 6-0 on the season after defeating Stanford 73-65 in overtime on Wednesday in the Cancun Challenge in Mexico.

"We certainly have our work cut out for us Monday night," commented Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "If we were playing well, the game with Kentucky would be a tremendous challenge. The fact we're not playing as well as we can just makes things tougher.

"We played a little better against Furman but just not well enough to win," added Biedenbach. "We're a much better shooting team then we've showed so far.  Our defense has to get better. We're just not playing like we're capable of right now. "

Biedenbach is very impressed with a young Kentucky squad that could make a run at a national title this season.

"I've known John Calipari (Kentucky's first-year head coach) for a long time and appreciate him playing us," stated Biedenbach. "He's a very good coach and excellent recruiter.  The scary thing about Kentucky is that it's a young team that's only going to get better as the season goes on. They have great athletes that can beat you in a lot of different ways."
