KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville women’s swimming team opened up action at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association championship on Wednesday with a school record.



The Bulldogs 800-yard freestyle relay team beat the school record by almost 10 seconds with a strong eighth-place finish.  Asheville’s quartet posted a time of 7:47.80 and earned the Blue & White 22 points.



The foursome were led off by Galen Broido (1:55.15), followed by freshman Rachel Van Noordt (2:00.14), senior Kristen Lawson (1:58.59) and anchored by Alexandra van Dorsten (1:53.92). 



Asheville’s 22 points has the Bulldogs in 11th place in front of VMI and North Carolina A&T and just behind Radford.



The second day of the CCSA Championship will begin Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10:00am, starting with the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries.  The event finals for day two will start at 6:00pm.
