KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville women’s swim team had several solid results on Thursday in the second day of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association that is being held at the Allan Jones Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Action began this morning in the 500 freesytle. Rachel Van Noordt swam a lifetime best with a time of 5:27.13. Galen Broido posted a strong time as she finished at a time of 5:11.13.
In the 200 individual medley, senior Kristen Lawson swam a season best of 2:17.17.
Alessandra Troncoso swam the 50 freestyle and had a season-high best o 24.89. Hallie Gillespie raced at conference champs after back surgery only four months ago and clocked in with a time of 27.15.
Also returning from an injury was freshman Morgan Dickie in the 50 freestyle. She had not swam in three months and posted a season best of 26.19
In the evening, the 200 free relay of Alessandra Troncoso (25.75), Kristen Lawson (24.91), Reid Jackson (24.61) and Ashley Ireland (24.72) went 1:39.99, scoring 14 valuable points for the Bulldogs. The times for Lawson and Jackson were lifetime bests’ 50 freestyle splits.
The Bulldogs are in a tie with VMI for 11th place with 36 points. Action will continue on the third day of competition on Friday morning.
