HICKORY, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s swimming team won 13 of 14 events on Saturday and cruised to a 167-76 victory at Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (4-4) were led by sophomore Alessandra Troncoso who won three events on the day. She won the 100 breaststroke, 200 breastroke and the200 individual medley as Asheville won handily on the day.
Also winning three events for the Bulldogs was freshman Alexandra van Dorsten. She took first in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
Ashley Ireland captured the 50 freestyle, while Galen Broido took first in the 1000 freestyle. Kristen Lawson contributed a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke. Reid Jackson finished first in the 100 backstroke.
"We have fought through some injuries and illness and today was a nice reward for our team's hard work and sticking together,” stated Bulldog coach Elizabeth Lykins. “It's always nice to see smiles on pool deck after solid efforts."
UNC Asheville is back in action next Saturday (Jan. 11) when the Bulldogs host Georgia Southern at Justice Center Pool starting at 10 a.m.
