The Asheville swimming program is being renewed and intercollegiate competition will take place for the first time since 1976 on Saturday. Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins was hired in January and has been on campus since March getting the program started from the ground up.

"Saturday will be very exciting for our team to finally have a meet," stated Lykins. "The girls on this year's team have never experienced a college meet before, so it's good for us to have an exhibition meet to get them used to what to expect once the regular season starts."

Lykins first Bulldog team will have 10 members on the roster. She's pleased with what she's seen of her team that includes three dual student-athletes. Asheville has been practicing for close to a month.

"I'm really pleased with everyone's effort," commented Lykins. "Everyone is working extremely hard and pushing their limits. I'm sure all of them are finding out that they're stronger than they realize."

This year's team consists of Liz Acker, Galen Broido, Chloe' Carr, Hallie Gillespie, Ashley Ireland, Amanda Larsen, Kristen Lawson, Eliza Ritchie, Ferriss Roberts and Alessandra Troncoso.

After Saturday's exhibition meet, the Bulldogs will have two more weeks of workouts before opening the regular season at the North Carolina Collegiate Kick-Off Classic in Greensboro on Oct. 5-6.

The Bulldogs first regular-season home meet will come against Campbell on Saturday, Nov. 3
