ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Athletics Department is pleased to announce its list of special events for 2014.
The first special event will be Saturday, Feb. 1, at Kimmel Arena when the UNC Asheville baseball team hosts its first ever “Meet the Team Night.” Former Bulldog great and 2010 American League All-Star Ty Wigginton will be the keynote speaker.
On Feb. 15, the women’s basketball team will host Longwood, which is designated as the “Pink Game.” There will be a women’s expo with speakers prior to the 2 p.m. Big South Conference contest. Following the game, there will be a wine and cheese social and then a fashion show hosted by Tiffany Ervin and Jean Ann Taylor. And after the fashion show, there will be auction for a one-year lease on VW Jetta.
The UNC Asheville Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 at Kimmel Arena as part of homecoming weekend. Homecoming will be from Feb. 27 through March 1.
In March, the Bulldog baseball team will play their first night game at Greenwood Field. The date will be announced soon.
On April 7, the Bulldog Athletic Association will host a Scholarship Raffle at Kimmel Arena.
On April 12, the school will help host National Woman in Sports Day.
The Our Turn to Play Luncheon will be held on April 15 at Kimmel Arena with three-time Olympian Gold Medalist Nancy Hogshead-Makar as the featured speaker.
On May 13, the UNC Asheville baseball team's meeting with Wake Forest at McCormick Field will be the Bulldogs vs. Cancer Game to help raise money for cancer research.
In August, the UNC Asheville men’s and women’s soccer teams will play their first night home games at Greenwood Field.
The Bulldog Athletic Association Scholarship Golf Classic will be held Aug. 25-26 at the Country Club of Asheville.
