ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Athletics Department will be hosting Anucha Browne, NCAA Vice President of Women's Basketball Championships on Wednesday.

Anucha's role at the NCAA is to set the strategic direction for, and oversee the operation and management of, the Division I, II and III women’s basketball championships.  Before joining the NCAA staff, Anucha was the University of Buffalo senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator, where she supervised men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming, diving and rowing. She was also responsible for marketing and ticket sales efforts, corporate partnerships, community relations, event presentation and operations for revenue sports.  Prior to her service at Buffalo, Browne was the senior vice president of marketing and business operations for the NBA’s New York Knicks.

The NCAA has recently completed a study describing the state of NCAA Division I women's basketball that includes recommendations and action steps that can be taken by the NCAA, conferences, institutions, and other key stakeholders to better position the sport for continued growth in the future.  The Big South Conference (BSC) is presently working on a strategic plan to improve both men's and women's basketball. UNC Asheville is also pleased to host Kyle Kallendar, Commissioner and Dawn Turner, Associate Commissioner of the BSC. In addition, the BSC Athletic Directors and Women's Basketball Coaches will be on hand for a women's basketball strategic planning workshop in conjunction with Anucha's visit.
