Editors Note: With the 2012-13 school year behind us, UNC Asheville's student-athletes will be providing us write-ups to allow everyone to get to know them a little better. Today's first student-athlete is men's soccer player A.J. Iiames.

AJ Iiames is a rising junior at UNC Asheville who plays on the Men’s Soccer Team. Recently elected team co-captain, he helps lead the defense at the outside fullback position. He is admired for his work ethic on the field, in the weight and training rooms, and in the classroom. Anticipating graduating in 2015, he is seeking a degree in Health in Wellness Promotion, in hopes of going to Graduate School for physical therapy.

In addition to playing soccer and studying, AJ enjoys being the Vice President for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. With his ingenuity and hilariously entertaining ideas, there are high hopes for him in being a great benefactor for SAAC. Also, he has played a huge role in the formation and progression of the Asheville Church Campus Ministry. When he isn’t impacting UNC Asheville, AJ enjoys volunteering for Eliada Homes in Asheville.

He chose UNC Asheville for two simple reasons: it is beautiful, and allows him to have personal relationships with his teachers. AJ’s summer plans include doing a physical therapy internship at the Athletic Performance Center in Cary.  A fun fact about AJ is that he loves to play ping-pong in his free time.
