UNC Asheville senior cross country runner Melanie Kulesz is this week’s recipient of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week at UNC Asheville. It marks the second time this year that Kulesz has earned the award.
Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.
Kulez led the Bulldog women’s team to a fourth-place finish at the prestigious Blue Ridge Open at Appalachian State Friday afternoon. Close to 30 schools participated in the meet, and the Asheville squad beat out teams like Duke, George Mason, High Point and other.
Melanie ran a strong race as she finished in ninth place against a tough field. She posted a time of 18:21.22 over the 5K course.
Kulesz and her teammates will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Big South Conference championships at VMI on Saturday, Nov. 2.
