Editor’s Note: The UNC Asheville Office of Athletics Communications will try to provide an Alumni Spotlight periodically to let people know what our former Bulldogs are doing right now. Today we profile former women’s soccer player Lauren Turnburke. Lauren has written her own story about her time at UNC Asheville and what she is doing now. She was a key player on UNC Asheville’s 2006 Big South Conference championship team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Lauren was a four-year starter in the midfield for the Bulldogs.

“There is nothing more rewarding than being an NCAA student athlete.  I was fortunate enough to be a member of the UNC Asheville Women’s Soccer team from 2006-2010, and I can honestly say that the experience molded me into the person I am today.  As a Division I student athlete, you inevitably learn life’s many lessons on a daily basis.  Consistent dedication to time management and teamwork, winning and losing with humility, overcoming the odds, and the importance of invaluable relationships are key concepts that I’ve translated into my professional life as a Financial Advisor with Janney Montgomery Scott.

"After earning my bachelor’s degree from UNC Asheville, I received my MBA from Appalachian State University (always a Bulldog though!).  I began my career as an associate in BB&T’s Leadership Development Program where I received extensive training in financial services.  Post graduation, I served as a branch manager and business advisor for BB&T in Charlottesville, Va.  from November 2012 – April 2014.  In my service to BB&T, I was fortunate to lead my wonderful team to many notable successes.

"This year, however, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a Financial Advisor.  I began my career at Janney Montgomery Scott as a junior partner in a team of FAs.  Together, my partner and I have over 28 years in financial services and specialize in providing tailored wealth management solutions to individuals, families, and corporate retirement plans.  My drive to be an elite advisor is a direct result of collegiate athletics at UNC Asheville.  I am so thankful to have been part of the athletic program – I would not be the professional I am today without it!  GO BULLDOGS!!”
