Every week the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) of UNC Asheville will highlight a student-athlete who has achieved success off the field, court or course.
This week we are highlighting Emma Bussard, a rising senior on the Track and Cross Country teams. Emma just recently got back from a six-week long study-abroad trip in Nepal. During her stay in Nepal, Emma studied the Nepal language, Buddhist and Hindu art, specifically clay sculptures. Following her time in Nepal, Emma will be a Recreation Director alongside her fellow teammate, and our SAAC President, Alyska Kalmeijer at the Smoky Mountain Running Camp held on the UNC Asheville campus.
This past school year, Emma earned a second place finish in a school-wide art show. She also worked with her class on grade school nutrition education as part of the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Program.
After graduation in the spring, Emma wants to continue pursuing her love of art and the possibility of going to pastry school while continuing to live in Asheville. As an avid runner and lover of the steeplechase, Emma will be challenging herself to reach the Olympic B standard in the steeplechase.
