Junior right-handed pitcher Dean Roland is this week's Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week.
Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.
Roland made two appearances last week, picking up his first save of the season against Wofford on Wednesday before earning a Big South Conference victory against Presbyterian College on Saturday. Against the Terriers, Roland entered the game with the Bulldogs leading 8-5 and retired the three batters he faced in the ninth, striking out one. Against PC on Saturday, he allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings of work, striking out eight and walking only two batters. Roland’s ERA on the week was 2.25 as he allowed only three extra base hits.
The Bulldog baseball team will be at home four times this week. Asheville hosts USC Upstate on Thursday at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m., followed by a Big South Conference series this weekend starting Friday against High Point (April 19-21).
