LEXINGTON, Va. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s cross country teams prepared for the Big South Conference championships at the Big South Preview on Saturday at the Vista Links Golf Course.
The women’s team finished in fifth place with 139 points, while the men’s team took seventh placed with 187 points.
Both Bulldog teams went into Saturday’s action to try and get ready for the Big South meet to be held here on Nov. 2.
“We ran OK today but basically we wanted to see what the course was like and see what we have to work on before we come back here in November,” stated Norman. “I wanted both teams to run together and simply learn the course.
“The course at Vista Links is the hardest course I’ve ever seen as a runner or as a coach,” added Norman.
On the women’s side, freshman Sarah Heisner led the Bulldog effort with a 25th place finish (20:18), followed closely by Melanie Kulesz (20:19.22) in 26th, Adrian Etheridge in 27th (20:19.89), Erin Dalton in 30th (20:35) and Kylie Smith (20:39) in 21st place.
The men’s team was led by Brent Schouler (28:53.18) in 33rd, followed by Andy Thornburg (28:53.89) in 34th. Kevin Paradise was right behind Thornburg in 35th (28:57.28). Ryan Catrine finished 40th with a time of 29:11. Patrick Osborne came in 45th as he posted a time of 29:32.
