ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross county teams are back in action on Friday afternoon when the Bulldog harriers head to Charlotte for the Royal Cross Country Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park.
Both Bulldog teams will compete against more than 35 other schools in the meet. The women's 5K race will start at 3:30 p.m., while the men's 8K race is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.
"This is a fast course, and we're excited about this meet," declared Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "We believe this will be a great meet for us to see where we're at this point of the season."
Asheville has not run since the Big South Preview at Radford on Sept. 25.
"We've worked hard since the Big South Preview and hopefully we'll see some results of that hard on Friday," explained Norman.
Freshman Tyler Michael posted the highest finish for men's squad at Radford, running the 8K in a time of 27:27.03 to finish in 11th place. Emma Bussard was the highest finisher on the women's side, posting a time of 20:03.71 in the 5Kto pace the Bulldogs.
"We want to be peaking pretty soon," said Norman. "The Big South Conference meet is in two weeks and that's when we want to be at our best."
