CONWAY, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams finished out their respective regular seasons on Saturday morning at the 2011 Big South Cross Country Championship presented by UCS on the campus of Coastal Carolina University, as the men finished eighth in the team competition while the women finished ninth.
On the men's side Asheville averaged a time of 26:58 in the 8k, posting a combined time of 2:14:49. Freshman Kevin Paradise set the pace for the men, finishing in 25th place with a time of 25:53. Eliud Chirchir (26:21) and Aaron Martin (26:59) placed 37th and 46th, respectively, while Carlos Lopez (27:40) and Elliot Pahel-Short (27:56) rounded out the Bulldogs' top five with 57th and 58th place finishes.
Sam Maynard finished 61st recording a time of 28:23 and Adam Schnapp finished 63rd with a time of 28:56.
On the women's side Asheville averaged a time of 19:57 in the 5k, with Adrian Etheridge (19:31), Kasey Briggs (19:37) and Alyska Kalmeijer (19:39) posting 42nd, 43rd and 44th place, respectively, for the Bulldogs.
Kylie Smith ran a time of 20:14 to finish 53rd and Clair Powell posted a time of 20:44 to finish 56th. Jennifer Black posted a time of 21:41 to round out the Asheville competitors.
The Liberty men's team won the team competition with a total time of 2:03:17. The Flames' Zac Edwards won the individual portion, posting a time of 23:56 to earn Runner of the Year honors. High Point finished second compiling a total time of 2:03:37 and VMI placed third with a total time of 2:07:00 to round out the top three.
HPU won the women's competition with a mark of 1:30:29 with Liberty (1:31:27) and Coastal Carolina (1:32:47) rounding out the top three. The Flames' Jennifer Klugh picked up Runner of the Year honors by running a time of 17:29.
