CHARLOTTEVILLE, Va. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete on Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional Qualifier starting at Noon. Friday’s meet will be held at Panorama Farms on the campus of the University of Virginia.

Both Bulldog teams are coming off solid performances at the Big South Conference Championship meet two weeks ago at VMI.

The women’s team earned its highest finish in 10 years with a third-place finish and just missed finishing in second place by two points. Sophomore Erin Dalton earned All-Conference honors by finishing in sixth place over the 5K course with a time of 18:40.78. Freshman Sarah Heisner earned all-conference honors as well with a 12th-place finish at 19:07.47. Senior Melanie Kulesz’s had a gutty effort that put her in 14th place with a time of 19:08.49. Adrian Etheridge took 20th at 19:23.40. Kylie Smith was 26th at 19:42.81.

The Bulldog men’s team took sixth place at the Big South meet. Asheville had 189 points and was led by Brent Schouler’s 28th-place finish as he ran the 8K course in a time of 27:45.07.

Andy Thornburg came in 31st place at 27:57.83, followed by Kevin Paradise in 36th (28:06.23). Freshman Dominic Collichio was 45th at 28:26.34. Patrick Osborne came in 49th at 28:39.19.

“We’re excited about running at regionals on Friday,” stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. “Our women’s team ran a great race at the Big South Conference meet and our men did a good job battling, as well.

“We’ll see some great competition and hopefully we can run well on a tough course,” added Norman.
