CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams ended the 2012 season with solid performance at the Southeast Regional at McAlpine Park Friday afternoon.

 

More than 80 teams participated in the meet with the women's team finishing in 29th place with 776 points and the men's squad taking 28th with 802 points.

 

"We ran pretty well in both races against very good competition," commented Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. "The future is very bright for both of our programs."

 

Emma Bussard led the women's team as she has all year long. She finished 63rd in her final collegiate cross country meet with a solid time of 21:59 over the 6K course.

 

Melanie Kulesz followed Bussard at 22:50, followed by Erin Dalton (23:27), Kelsie Rubino (23:56) and Scarlett Beamon (24:36).

 

On the men's side, sophomore Kevin Paradise completed the season with a time of 32:32.87 and was Asheville's top runner for the third time this year over the 8K course.

 

Skyler Winchester finished at a time of 33.41, followed by Jeremy Gower at 33:55, Andy Thornburg at 34:08 and David Ryland at 34:22. Elliot Pahel-Short rounded out Asheville's runners at 36:38.

 

"We brought a lot of freshmen and sophomores to this race," stated Norman. "I think both programs made a lot of strides this season, and we're excited about the future."
