The Bulldog men's team had 143 points in the meet with junior Eliud Chirchir finishing in 26th place to lead Asheville with a time of 26:48 over the 8K course.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs had 194 points. Emma Bussard continued her good work in the first part of the year with a time of 19:17 over the 5K course. She finished in 29th.
"Overall, it was a good effort against some very good competition," stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "On the men's side, we definitely improved from our effort at Western Carolina two weeks ago. There's still plenty of work to do but we did a solid job when you consider one of our top runners in Kent Rankin did not run.
"Our women finished about where I thought we would place," Norman also said. "We had a good effort from everyone but like the guys they can still get better."
Senior John Barringer finished right behind Chirchir with a time of 26:50 and a 27th place finish. Sam Maynard took 29th (27:00) with freshman Tyler Michael just behind him in 30th (27:03). Carlos Lopez finished in 31st place (27:10). Nick Summer came in 33rd (27:22). Adam Schnapp rounded out the Bulldog effort (28:17).
Freshman Rachel Carson took 32nd for the women's team at a time of 19:27. Alyska Kalmeijer was right behind Carson in 33rd (19:28). Erin Putnam placed 47th (21:16), while Jennifer Black finished 53rd (22:35). Kylie Smith came in 54th (22:46). Shelby Lott took 57th (23:05). Ginger Buchanan finished with a time of 24:34.
The Bulldogs will run next Saturday (Sept. 25) when they compete in the Big South Preview at Radford University.
