Kulesz Earns All-Conference For 2nd Straight Year in Cross Country

RADFORD, VA. - Sophomore Melanie Kulesz finished ninth and earned Big South All-Conference honors for the second straight year to highlight the UNC Asheville women's cross country team's performance at the Big South Championship Meet held at Blacksburg Middle School Course Saturday morning.

The Bulldog women's team took fifth place with 141 points. The men's squad came in sixth place with 162 points.

Kulesz came in ninth as she ran the 5K course with a time of 18:33. She finished in 10th place last season.

Emma Bussard finished 17th for Asheville with a time of 18:32. Sophomore Clair Powell came in 33rd place at a time of 19:40. Rachel Carson had a time of 20:03 and took 38th place.

Alyska Kalmeijer finished at 20:22 which was good for 44th. Erin Putnam came in 47th at 20:50. Jennifer Black rounded out the Bulldogs on the day with a time of 21:49.

On the men's side, Jay Barringer continued his strong year with a solid showing in the championship. He was Asheville's top runner of the 8K course as he finished 25th with a time of 26:49.

Freshman Nick Summers took 29th on Saturday with a time of 27:13. Kent Rankin followed Summers in 33rd place at 27:23. Eliud Chirchir finished 36th and posted a time of 27:31. Sam Maynard had a time of 27:45 and took 39th. Carlos Lopez came in 44th at 28:04. Adam Schnapp posted a time of 31:16.

Each team had one runner make the Big South All-Academic for their work in the classroom. Emma Bussard made it for the women's team, while Adam Schnapp earned a spot on the team on the men's squad.
