ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams open the 2011 season when they participate in the Western Carolina Invitational. The meet is scheduled to get started at 6:30 p.m.

"We're looking forward to the start of the year," explained fourth-year head coach Jesse Norman. "Our teams have been training hard the past month but now we're anxious to get to a meet."

The men's squad is anxious to improve on last year's disappointing campaign. The Bulldog harriers could never get totally untracked last season but believe 2011 should be different.

On the women's side, Asheville has steadily shown improvement over the past few years and hope that continues into 2011.

"We definitely believe we can be much better on the men's side," explained Norman. "We won't be very deep, but we have a good nucleus that if we can stay healthy, it will allow us to have a chance to improve a great deal.

"With the women, we have a good team coming back," stated Norman. "We have good depth and balance throughout our line-up."
