Cross Country Teams Compete at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's country teams competed in the Mountaineer Open at Appalachian State Friday evening.

The Bulldog women's squad took sixth place with 157 points, while the men's team finished in seventh place with 186 points.

National power Ohio State finished in first place in both the men's and women's field.

The women's team was led by freshman Adriane Etheridge. She finished in 23rd place and had a time of 19:09 over the 5K course.

Kasey Briggs took 31st with a time of 19:56, followed by Kylie Smith (20:17), Alyska Kalmeijer (20:45), Jennifer Black (21:12) and Rachel Carson (21:44).

The men's team was led by freshman Kevin Paradise who finished in 28th place over the 6,400 meter course. He had a time of 20:43.

Aaron Martin came in 32nd as he posted a time of 21:04. He was followed by Eliud Chirchir (21:30). Carlos Lopez (21:45), Adam Schnapp (22:55), Sam Maynard (23:03) and Eliot Pahel-Short (23:13).

The Bulldog teams are back in action in two weeks when they'll participate in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Lafayette, Pa. on Sept. 30.
