Cross Country Teams to Compete Friday at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, PA. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams will be in action on Friday morning when both Bulldog teams compete in the 38th annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.

This will easily be the strongest field both Asheville squads have faced this year. On the men's side, eight of the eight of the Top 25 teams in Division I will be competing, including No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 5 Iona, No. 12 Princeton, No. 15 Syracuse, No. 17 Providence, No. 18 Villanova, No. 19 Virginia and No. 22 Georgetown. On the women's side, seven of the Top 25 teams are scheduled to run including four teams in the Top 10 led by No. 1 Georgetown, No. 3 Providence, No. 5 Villanova and No. 9 Duke.

"We're going to compete against some of the nation's best on Friday," commented Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. "This should be a great experience for both of our teams to be in and should make us better for the second half of the season."

Both teams last ran two weeks ago (Sept. 16) at the Mountaineer Open at Appalachian State. The Bulldog women's squad took sixth place with 157 points, while the men's team finished in seventh place with 186 points.

The women's team was led by freshman Adriane Etheridge. She finished in 23rd place and had a time of 19:09 over the 5K course.

Kasey Briggs took 31st with a time of 19:56, followed by Kylie Smith (20:17), Alyska Kalmeijer (20:45), Jennifer Black (21:12) and Rachel Carson (21:44).

The men's team was led by freshman Kevin Paradise who finished in 28th place over the 6,400 meter course. He had a time of 20:43.

Aaron Martin came in 32nd as he posted a time of 21:04. He was followed by Eliud Chirchir (21:30). Carlos Lopez (21:45), Adam Schnapp (22:55), Sam Maynard (23:03) and Eliot Pahel-Short (23:13).
