ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team remains at home on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Radford in a Big South Conference battle at Greenwood Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday's match will be video-streamed and can be seen under the multimedia tag at www.uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (1-12-0, 0-6-0 BSC) looks to snap a 12-game losing streak on Saturday and pick up its first league win of the season. The Bulldogs came close on Wednesday before falling to Gardner-Webb at home, 1-0 on a late goal by the Runnin' Bulldogs.
"The group is looking forward to the match against Radford on Saturday," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "Radford is very well-coached, dangerous on the counter attack, and good on set pieces.
"We played better defensively Wednesday against Gardner Webb and will look to continue that focus," added Kern. "In the attack, we will look to keep the ball, create a few more chances from open play, and also look to score from dead ball situations."
Kern's club has played better lately with two of its last three losses by just one goal. The other loss was a 3-0 defeat at #12 Coastal Carolina last Saturday. In that match, the Bulldogs trailed by just one goal for most of the match until two late CCU goals sealed the victory for the Chanticleers.
Things don't get any easier for Asheville on Saturday. Radford is 7-2-3 on the season and tied for first place with Coastal Carolina with a 5-0-0 league worksheet. The Highlanders come into Greenwood Field unbeaten in their last six matches.
The Bulldogs won last season at Radford, 1-0 on a goal from Bryan Bartels in overtime. RU out-shot Asheville 12-3 in the match, but Bulldog goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made six saves in the victory.
After Saturday's match, the Bulldogs are off until next Saturday (Oct. 20) when they host VMI in the final home match of the season. That contest has a new starting time with a Noon start.
