ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s soccer team opens Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field when the Bulldogs host Liberty starting at 3:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Fans will be able to follow the match via live-stats under the multi-media tag at uncabulldogs.com.

The Bulldogs (3-4-0) have not played since going 1-1 in the Asheville Invitational last weekend. Asheville downed Howard 2-l last Friday before falling to Georgia Southern, 1-0 on Sunday.

Liberty (3-3-0, 0-2-0 BSC) lost at home to VMI on Tuesday, 3-2. The Flames are led by Sachem Wilson. He has four goals, two assists for 10 points.

Kenny Lingerfelt leads Asheville in scoring with goals and five points. He has a goal in two of the last three matches.

“Our match with Liberty should be a great match to watch as both teams value possession,” stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern. “Liberty has some very dangerous attacking players and also do good job of getting numbers behind the ball defensively.”

Last year’s match with Liberty was one of the few bright spots for the Bulldogs in 2012. Carrying a 15-game losing streak into the final match of the year at Liberty, Asheville battled the Flames to a 0-0 tie.

The Bulldogs are looking for their first victory over Liberty since the 2002 season when Asheville edged LU, 2-1 in overtime in Lynchburg.  The Flames have owned the Bulldogs at Greenwood Field. Liberty is 10-1 vs. the Bulldogs in Greenwood Field. Asheville owns more victories over the Flames in Lynchburg (2) than it does at home. Liberty has won the last five meetings at Greenwood Field. Asheville’s only win was a 2-1 decision in the 2001 campaign.

Asheville has already won three times (3) as many matches then it did all of last year (1).

The Bulldogs have allowed just one goal in three of the last four matches.

Asheville is 2-1-0 at home this season.

The Bulldogs host Wisconsin-Green Bay on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
