BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Darren Clarke scored the game’s first three goals as Gardner-Webb downed UNC Asheville 5-0 in men’s soccer action Wednesday evening.


The Runnin’ Bulldogs took a 2-0 halftime lead behind two goals from Clarke. He scored the first goal of the second half before the home team scored the final two goals to pick up the victory.


The Bulldogs fell to 4-10-0 on the season and 1-5-0 in league play. Gardner-Webb improved to 7-6-3 overall and 4-3-0 in the Big South.


Gardner-Webb controlled the match for most of the way and out-shot Asheville 24-7. Bobby Castro and Emil Gonsalvez each had two shots for the Bulldogs.


UNC Asheville goes on the road again this Saturday afternoon at VMI. The match will start at 1 p.m.
