ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s soccer team hits the road on Saturday for a Big South Conference battle at VMI starting at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s match is scheduled to be broadcast on the Big South Digital Network and can be seen for free under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (4-10-0, 1-5-0 BSC) looks for its second league win of the season and hopes to end a frustrating three-game losing streak to the Keydets. VMI’s three straight wins have all come by one goal, including a wild 4-3 victory last season at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs fell behind 4-1 before making a frantic comeback, scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes and just missed tying the match.
Matt Kern’s team is coming off a disappointing 5-0 defeat at Gardner-Webb Wednesday night.
VMI is 1-12-1 on the season but the one victory was an impressive 3-2 triumph at Liberty last month.
The Bulldogs are being led in scoring this year by senior forward Bobby Castro with three goals, an assist for seven points. Emil Gonsalvez has three goals and all of them have been game-winners.
Asheville finishes up at home next week with two contests. The Bulldogs host Northern Kentucky Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m., followed by a date with #5 Coastal Carolina at Greenwood Field next Saturday (Nov. 2) at 1 p.m.
