ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team takes to the road Tuesday night when the Bulldogs travel to Presbyterian College for a Big South Conference with the Blue Hose starting at 7 p.m.
Asheville (2-6-1, 0-1-0 BSC) is coming off a 1-1 tie at Longwood Saturday evening. The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 early in the match before getting the equalizer on a goal from Jake Sides with less than seven minutes remaining.
PC is 1-6-1 on the season and 0-2 in league play. However, the one victory was an impressive win as the Blue Hose knocked off Southern Conference power Furman 2-1 in overtime.
Since joining the Big South, Asheville is 1-0-2 against PC. Last season, the teams played to a 2-2 tie as the Blue Hose led 2-0 at halftime before the Bulldogs scored twice in the second half to earn a point.
"Beating Furman was a great win for Presbyterian," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "They've had some bad luck in some matches and have played a pretty tough schedule. We know it will be a very competitive game on Tuesday.
"We got off to a slow start at Longwood but got stronger as the match went on," added Kern. "I'm hoping for a little quicker start tomorrow night."
Connor Holzinger leads Asheville in assists with four...the Bulldogs have played just two home games on the year...Bryan Bartels has two goals on the year and both are game-winners...Asheville won at PC two years ago, 2-1...two of the Bulldogs last three games have gone to overtime.
